Hartford Accused of Using Altered Reports to Deny Hurricane Sandy Homeowner Claims

By on December 5, 2014

A class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court against Hartford Insurance Co. of the Midwest and its law firm Nielsen Carter & Treas LLC based on allegations that Hartford and other companies conspired to falsely deny homeowner claims from Hurricane Sandy victims.

The complaint states that defendants purportedly orchestrated the fraud by using falsified reports on Sandy-damaged properties prepared by engineering firms including HiRise Engineering.  Plaintiffs appealed to the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and provided the agency with evidence altered engineering reports, but the agency denied the appeal.
